Apologies

To all our international (business) relations: please accept our apologies!
This was not meant to be. We really didn’t want this to happen. Yes, we supported our national football team from scratch. We already started on May 20 2010 with one orange pennant in our cartoon, doubling the festoons up week after week up to 256 last thursday, just to create an atmosphere of honest pride and chauvinism to be able to win and cheer together. We rehearsed our national anthem night after night with hand on heart, all this, because we hoped that our star players world astonish the world with their skills and team spirit. But they let us down. And they let you down. They were a disgrace. Not only for Dutch football, but to our nation. Please don’t blame their behaviour on us. This is not what we wanted. We really couldn’t help it. Wir haben es nicht gewusst.

Of course you are right: we could have known. Four years ago they did exactly the same thing against the Portuguese in the semi final. But we honestly thought that with a new coach and a number of fresh players they would mend their ways. We expected them to see the light and convert themselves to honesty and superb soccer. Unfortunately we were wrong.

The Dutch soccer team behaved like a herd of bull cattle. As soon as they noticed they were poor players compared to their opponents they started a stampede trying to hurt and injure everything that didn’t wear an orange outfit. That this was a poor strategy, especially against the experienced toreadors from Spain, is the ultimate proof of the Dutch stupidity. The bull will never stand a chance in the arena. That the fight lasted so long was due to the leniency of the referee, who should have expelled half the Dutch team before half time. Moreover not only the football players but the Dutch press as well make a lot of hullaballoo over a corner they should have got and over the Spanish players who constantly asked the arbiter to pull a yellow card after the bad fouls of the Dutch. They forget the Dutch themselves in their behaviour constantly asked to get red.

Please accept our apologies. We are not like that, nor is our nation. Only a mere million Dutchmen will visit the honouring of the players and their triumphal procession through the Amsterdam canals. Many more are indifferent and we know a few who would be glad if they sank and drowned.

With kind regards,
